SGE/Northeast Engineers & Consultants (SGE/NE&C) has teamed up with The Gallery Collection to send out wind power Holiday cards for 2009, and to highlight the new wind turbine at SGE’s corporate headquarters.

The cards are from Prudent Publishing’s The Gallery Collection and manufactured in mills 100% offset by wind power energy. The Gallery Collection sells over 200 greeting cards that are produced by wind power energy. Additionally, all of their envelopes are made in these eco-friendly facilities which utilize renewable energy. For more information please visit www.GalleryCollection.com or call (201) 641-0070.

“We wanted to continue the tradition of sending holiday greeting cards to our clients as a way of thanking them for their business, but it becomes an ethical question for a company like ours in the sustainable energy field. Do we save a tree and the carbon emissions from producing and delivering holiday cards or do we send a mass email instead? explains Mary Pat Radeka, of SGE’s marketing department. “I found several nice cards depicting wind turbines wrapped in Christmas lights, etc. but when I found out that The Gallery Collection had holiday cards that were actually made in wind powered facilities and that they also invest in wind power by purchasing REC’s (Renewable Energy Credits), I knew I had found our cards.”

SGE/NE&C is a civil engineering firm that also has a renewable energy division. They offer turn key wind and solar solutions for commercial applications including wind site suitability assessments, design, permitting, procurement and construction of wind turbines. The company plans to install solar panels on their building this spring with the goal of becoming the first commercial building in Rhode Island to be completely off the grid.

On Tuesday, September 22, RIEDC presented SGE with a grant and loan check for $250,000 for the construction of a 100kW wind turbine at the company’s global headquarters located in the Aquidneck Corporate Park in Middletown, RI.

Over 200 people were on hand to witness the presentation of the grant check and to see the new 150’ high turbine first hand. SGE hosted the event for business associates, state and local politicians and corporate park neighbors to celebrate the completion of the wind turbine which is now spinning. October.

SGE CEO Blake Henderson thanked the EDC and the many local businesses and contractors who helped with the project, emphasizing that this one project supported many local jobs and contributed to the new green economy in RI.

Other speakers included Fred Hashway, Director of Government Affairs, Policy and Innovation from the RIEDC, Don Troppoli, Chairman of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce, Richard Cambra, Vice Chairman, Middletown Council,

SGE and its divisions Northeast Engineers & Consultants and Sustainable Global Energy offer turn key wind and solar solutions for commercial applications including engineering, permitting, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning. They also help their clients find funding through federal and state grants for renewable energy projects. In addition, the company accepted a 2009 Innovation Award from the Providence Business News in the category of Energy & the Environment at Bryant University on September 23rd.

SGE accepted a 2009 Innovation Award from the Providence Business News (PBN) in the category of Energy & the Environment at Bryant University on September 23rd. SGE was among eight companies considered for the prestigious award. Roger Bergenheim the President and Publisher of PBN said “[SGE's] innovative approach to redirecting your company’s focus and strengths after the economic downturn made you stand out in a competitive category.” Energy & the Environment is a new category added to the annual Innovation Awards for 2009. SGE’s submittal focused on facing the world economic crisis and quickly moving into a new business sector, renewable energy–specifically wind turbines. This strategic move saved jobs and found a new market for the traditional engineering and construction skills of the company.

To date SGE has contracted for the majority of on-going wind studies in Rhode Island and has begun wining contracts for studies in Southeastern Massachusetts. The company currently has three wind turbines at different stages of design and construction. In a recent report, SGE was named as the leading Wind Energy and Engineer/Procure/Construct company in Rhode Island.

Northeast Engineers & Consultants, SGE’s engineering division, won PBN’s Business Excellence award in 2005 for their civil engineering and electrical work in Iraq and has been named to PBN’s Top 100 and Fastest Growing Companies, and Top Private Companies for five consecutive years including 2009. For more information please contact us at +1.401.849.0810 or info@sge-corp.com

Patrick Kennedy and Jim Langevin, RI Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed and other local politicians to discuss economic development and job creation as part of a tour of local companies organized by the Newport County Chamber of Commerce.

Pelosi and SGE’s principals Blake Henderson and Eric Offenberg discussed the company’s transition to the renewable energy sector, and how it has helped SGE retain and create jobs.

Pelosi also got a close-up look at the inside of a wind turbine tower which was delivered to SGE on July 9 by Northern Power Systems of VT. The tower is part of the 100kW wind turbine which will be installed to power the Easton Pond Business Center and SGE’s offices. The project received final approval from the Town of Middletown in June, and the turbine is expected to be operating by the fall.

On a beautiful, sunny day with the Portsmouth wind turbine gently spinning above, the first annual Energy Independence Day was held. Over 100 people spent part of their forth of July weekend visiting the 15+ vendor booths to learn about saving energy, reducing our impact on the environment and minimizing our dependence on foreign fuel through fun, educational activities. Families enjoyed picnicking on the lawn and visiting each booth to get answers to the energy facts scavenger hunt. Prizes were also given to those who came to the event on foot, bike or by public transportation.

SGE’s booth on renewable energy featured informational brochures about solar and wind power, a kid’s fun book, and a “Color a Wind Turbine” activity. Over 35 kids spent time coloring a rainbow of colorful turbines for a chance to win a solar powered mini-wind turbine in our raffle.

It was a successful event and SGE is looking forward to participating again next year.
