Aquidneck Island Wastewater Facilities Study

SGE dba Northeast Engineers & Consultants completed the first phase of an island-wide wastewater facilities study for the Newport County Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the study was to investigate the possibility and benefits of a Island-wide solution to remediate current and future wastewater issues in Narragansett Bay instead of separate solutions for each community. Our report discussed the viability and logistics of developing a public, regional wastewater treatment facility on the Western shore of Aquidneck Island. Unlike other studies, we considered a regional approach and investigated additional possible contributing areas which included the US Navy and part of Middletown. This approach increases the number of contributing areas to reduce sewer user fees and help alleviate the current strain on the Newport wastewater treatment facility.
